The Skills Enhancement Program is the work based mode of training delivery. This program focuses on providing training to employees from Skills Development Levy payers with the aim of updating and upgrading staff skills to address skills gaps within occupations. Thus, SEP program focuses on employees in the formal sectors.
The main objective of the Skills Enhancement Program is thus to ensure the availability of appropriate skills to companies/industries for improved productivity and sustain employment of the workforce. In particular, the program focuses on the following specific objectives: -
i. To upgrade and update skills of the employees to enable the companies raise productivity and improve quality of products and service delivery as a direct benefit to levy contribution;
ii. To enhance partnership between VETA and employers through effective collaboration in competence building of the workforce;
iii. To share and facilitate technological experience and changes taking place in industries in order to provide training for emerging skills.
Criteria for Eligibility to Skill Enhancement Programme
Companies which meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for SEP:
i. Contributed regularly and consistently to the Skills Development Levy;
ii. Requested Skills for SEP are limited to vocational/technical and supervisory levels;
iii. Training to be agreed upon by the two parties (VETA and Company) shall take place in Tanzania Mainland;
iv. The company shall be able to contribute 50% of the total cost to be incurred for SEP. Company contribution could be in cash or cash
